CNBC is getting into the streaming game with a service called CNBC+. The platform will provide global live broadcasting of financial news taking place in the US, UK and Asian markets. Subscribers can also watch full episodes of the show on demand. The service is available through applications for iOS and Android or on the website cnbc.com.
According to CNBC announced the news and pricing plans for CNBC+ on Jan. 1 in an email to people who subscribe to the network's digital offerings. It seems strange to announce a new property aimed at business and finance professionals on a day when most businesses are closed. CNBC is also one of the properties owned by current owner Comcast. spin off into a new company, making it a potentially difficult time for the network to launch an expensive new project.
And expensive is the key word. Not only is such a digital platform expensive to operate, but CNBC+ is also expensive for viewers. A regular subscription will cost $15 per month, while the Pro tier includes additional rankings and stock picks, as well as the My Portfolio feature for $35 per month or $300 per year. For truly dedicated fans, there is also an All Access plan that includes membership in an online investment club led by CNBC's Jim Cramer. This plan costs a staggering $600 per year.
This isn't the first time cable news has attempted standalone streaming. Warner Bros. Discovery launched CNN+ in March 2022, but immediately just a few weeks later. We'll see if CNBC+ can last longer.
