Oman launches a national health insurance platform

Oman's Financial Services Authority (FSA) has officially launched the National Health Insurance Platform, known as Dhamani, to oversee the operations at the country's health insurance market.

The platform is an electronic system with the aim of simplifying health insurance information exchange and the processing of claims between insurers and private healthcare providers.

At a press conference, FSA CEO Abdullah Salim Al Psalmi detailed the regulatory functions of the platform and its positive impact predicted on the Sultanate Health Insurance system.

He pointed out that Dhamani was designed to improve the Omani health insurance market and relieve citizens' access to health services.

Al Psalmi confirmed the effectiveness of the platform, as seen in its successful pilot phase.

During the first quarter of 2025, Dhamani facilitated approximately three million health insurance transactions between insurance companies and private healthcare organizations.

The platform is now linked to 33 private hospitals and three healthcare complexes.

Dhamani aims to address many challenges facing insurance stakeholders, ensuring the provision of quality health insurance services and settling financial obligations on a timely manner to private healthcare providers.

The platform will also maintain a database of medical conditions, diagnoses and treatments, which will enable authorities to conduct research with the aim of promoting the health sector.

Al Psalmi further mentioned that Dhamani currently serves over 650,000 health insurance policy holders and treats up to 40,000 transactions every day.

To support the development of the platform and offset the costs of its establishment, which totaled OR1.6m, hospitals are charged a modest fee using the service.
