“Our community grieves,” the festival organizers say

The organizers of the Lapu Lapu Annual Festival in Vancouver in Canada, where car attacks killed 11 people on Saturday, said they were “broken from the heart” and “collectively broken”.

The exhausted and emotional RJ Aquino said the Philippine community was left “numb”, sad and angry after the incident, which police said it was not related to terrorism.

“We will feel the impact of this long time,” he told a press conference on Sunday.

Mabel Elmore, who is a member of the legislative assembly of British Colombia (MLA) for Vancouver-Beansington, described the local community as sustainable and said “will come from this catastrophe.”

Local authorities said the suspect, a 30-year-old man, was known to the police and had a “significant history of interactions” with the healthcare system related to mental health.
