Meanwhile, an unusual matrimonial dispute in Uttar Pradesh has grabbed the headlines. After 40 days of marriage, a woman filed for divorce citing her husband's severe lack of personal hygiene. According to India TodayThe woman claimed that her husband bathes only once or twice a month, which leads to unbearable body odor and makes cohabitation unbearable.
Seeking help from the Family Counseling Center in Agra, she explained that her husband's refusal to maintain basic hygiene led to constant arguments. She declared that she could no longer live under such conditions.
When questioned by officers, the husband admitted that he usually only showered once or twice a month. He revealed that in order not to bathe regularly, he sprinkles Gangajal (holy water from the Ganga) on himself weekly. He claimed that in the 40 days of their marriage, he had showered six times on his wife's insistence.
After a few weeks of their marriage, arguments escalated, causing the woman to move back to her parents' home. Following this, her family filed a complaint of dowry harassment at the local police station and initiated divorce proceedings against the husband.
