Police are investigating the Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Police said a cybertruck pulled up outside the hotel Wednesday near a glass entrance, after which smoke began coming from the vehicle and it exploded.
The driver was killed and seven people were injured, police said, without naming any suspects or victims. Authorities said all injuries were minor.
The fire broke out just hours after ten people were killed when a man plowed a truck into a crowd in New Orleans, Louisiana, on New Year's Day.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill of the Las Vegas Police Department said officers were “well aware of what happened in New Orleans,” including that an improvised explosive device was found at the Louisiana crime scene.
“As you can imagine, with an explosion here on an iconic strip in Las Vegas, we are taking all the precautions we need to take to keep our community safe,” he said during a press conference.
Mr McMahill said there was no longer a threat to the Las Vegas community.
Fire officials said emergency crews quickly worked to extinguish the fire inside the vehicle.
They added that the public should stay away from the area and that the hotel had been evacuated, with most guests being relocated.
