The 88 -year -old Pope Francis read the newspapers and ate breakfast on Sunday after the second night sleeping well in the hospital where he was treated with respiratory tract infection, said the Vatican.
Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said he was expecting to provide further update later. He noticed that basically new detailed medical information may not be able to be able to take into account that this is Sunday.
The Argentine Pope, a well -known workaholic, who maintains an exhaustive pace despite many ailments, was admitted to Rome in the Hospital of Gemella on Friday after a weekly bay of bronchitis. It was his fourth hospitalization since the 2013 election and asked questions about his increasingly uncertain health.
Doctors confirmed the respiratory tract infection and prescribed “ruthless rest” along with unspecified drug therapies. Francis omitted his traditional blessing on Sunday at noon, even refusing to come to the hospital window to wave to a small crowd below, which gathered in the hope of supporting him.
Pontifex social media account, which is not written by the Pope himself, thanked the people for prayers on Sunday.
“Thank you for your attachment, prayer and closeness with which you accompany me these days,” we read in the post.
History of lung complaints
Francis removed a part of one lung after lung infection when he was a young man and is susceptible to breathing infections. In 2023, he spent three days in Gemella to be treated because of what he later revealed was a sharp case of pneumonia.
Despite the diagnosis of February 6, bronchitis, Francis recently maintained a crazy pace, packing his days with a private and public audience, while adopting additional obligations to manage the Catholic Church for the Holy Year.
The Vatican canceled his events at least on Monday. On Sunday, the Holy Mass, which he had the leadership for visitors to artists, was celebrated by the Minister of Vatican Culture.
The Vatican did not determine what kind of respiratory tract infection the pope has. Sometimes bronchitis can lead to pneumonia, a deeper and much more serious air bag infection.
Treatment varies depending on the severity, but it may include oxygen supply by the nasal tube or mask, intravenous fluids – and treatment of the basic cause of infection.
