Pope Francis' condition continues to be “critical” after undergoing a “prolonged respiratory crisis similar to asthma” earlier on Saturday, the Vatican said.
Pontiphic is “more unspoken than yesterday” and has received blood transfusion, the statement said.
The Vatican said the 88-year-old was also alert in his armchair, but he needs “high-flow oxygen” and his forecast “remains kept”.
The pope is treated by pneumonia in both lungs at Gemelli Hospital in Rome.
It was first admitted on February 14 after experiencing difficulties to breathe for several days.
Earlier, the Vatican announced that Pope Francis would not appear in public to pray with worshipers on Sunday, which means that he will miss the event for the second consecutive week.
On Friday, doctors told him that there was no immediate risk to his life, but he was not “out of danger”.
