Letter from President Biden: 1/15/2025
Four years ago, we were in a winter of danger and a winter of possibility. We were in the grip of the worst pandemic in a century, the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, and the worst attack on our democracy since the Civil War. But we came together as Americans and bravely got through it. We emerged stronger, more prosperous and more secure.
Today, we have it The strongest economy in the world and created a record 16.6 million new jobs. Wages have gone up. Inflation continues. The racial wealth gap is the lowest it has been in 20 years. We are rebuilding our entire country – urban, suburban, rural and tribal communities. Production returns to America. We are again leading the world in science and innovation, including the semiconductor industry. And we finally beat Big Pharma to lower the cost of prescription drugs for seniors. More people in America today have health insurance than ever before. I signed one of the most important laws to help millions of veterans and their families exposed to toxic substances, as well as the most important climate legislation in history and the first major gun safety legislation in nearly 30 years. today, Violent crime rates are at a 50-year low.

I ran for president because I believed the soul of America was at stake. Our nature was at stake. And, it still is. America is an idea stronger than any army and bigger than any ocean. This is the most powerful idea in the history of the world. The belief that we are all created equal and endowed by our Creator with certain inalienable rights, including life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We have never fully lived up to this sacred idea, but we have never abandoned it either. And I do not believe that the American people will withdraw from it now.
