Rebel leader who overthrew the Assad regime in Syria, appointed a temporary president

Last month, the leader of the Syria rebels, who overthrew President Bashar Al-Assad, was appointed a temporary president of the country on Wednesday, when the former insurgents canceled the existing constitution, saying that a new card would be developed soon.

The appointment of Ahmad Al-Sharaa, a rebel who was once in line with Al-Qaeda, as the president of Syria, “in the transitional phase”, took place after the meeting of the former insurgent factions in Damascus, the capital of Syria.

The advertisement was announced by the new spokesman, de facto military government, Col. Hassan Abdul Ghani, the Sana State Press Agency.

Al-Sharaa was to appear in a television speech after the meeting, but he did not do it right away, and it was not clear if he would do it. The exact mechanism, on the basis of which the factions chose him as a temporary president, was also not clear.

Al-Sharaa, previously known as Abu Mohammed Al-Golani, is the leader of Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS), a former insurgent group who conducted an instant offensive that overturned Assad at the beginning of December.

Watch Al-Sharaa, previously known as Al-Golani, conducted an offensive at the Assad regime:

Who is the leader of Syrian rebels Abu Mohammed Al-Golani?

Abu Mohammed Al-Golani, a rebel leader, is to play an important role in the future of Syria. Ellen Mauro from the National breaks down the way it was created in the ranks of the rebels and how his leadership can affect the country.

The group was once associated with Al-Qaeda, but since then they condemned their previous ties, and in recent years Al-Sharaa tried to throw herself as a master of pluralism and tolerance and promised to protect the rights of women and religious minorities.

A new constitution that should be prepared

The United States had previously placed us in the amount of $ 10 million on Al-Sharaa, but canceled it last month after the US delegation visited Damascus and met him. Barbara Leaf, the best American diplomat in the Middle East, said after the meeting that Al-Sharaa turned out to be “pragmatic”.

The Arab world did not immediately respond to the Al-Sharai meeting, which was expected. Western nations, although they moved to restore relationships with Damascus after overthrowing Assad, are still a bit cautious about the new Islamist rulers of Syria.

Abdul Ghani, a spokesperson, also announced on Wednesday the cancellation of the country's constitution-shot in 2012, based on the rule of Assad-i said that Al-Sharaa would be authorized to create a temporary legislative council until the new constitution was developed.

Abdul Ghani said that all armed factions in the country would be resolved and be absorbed in state institutions.

Since the fall of Assad, HTS became a de facto ruling party and founded a temporary government largely from officials from the local government, which previously ran in the province of Idlib regarding rebels.

The promise of starting the integration process for the new government

The temporary authorities promised that they would start a trial to establish a new government and constitution, including the convening of the National Dialogful Conference and inviting various communities in Syria, although the date was not established.

When the former Syrian army fell with the fall of Assad, Al-Sharaa called for the creation of a new unified National Army and security forces, but there were questions about how temporary administration can gather a mosaic of former rebel groups, each of which has its own leaders and ideology.

Watch The future of the new Syria government remains unclear:

Huge crowds celebrate Assad's fall as a difficult election, they are waiting for Syria

Less than a week after the fall of the Assad regime, thousands of Syrians took to the streets to celebrate when they looked at the winning rebel forces, but in the midst of joy there is uncertainty about the future, when economic and political challenges are growing.

Even Knottier is a matter of Kurdish groups supported by the US, which forged an autonomous enclave at the beginning of the civil war in Syria, never fully on the side of the Assad government or rebels who want to overthrow him. Since Assad's fall, there has been an escalation in clashes between Kurdish forces and supported Turkish armed groups of allied from HTS in northern Syria.

Syrian democratic forces led by the Kurdish people were not present at the Wednesday meeting of the armed fractions on Wednesday and there was no immediate comment from the group.

At the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos this month, Asaad Al-Shibani, a new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria and HTS official, said that the country needs the help of the international community because it begins reconstruction after almost 14 years of brutal civil war.
