Members of Congress from California on Saturday visited the ruins Altadena and north Pasadena caused by the ongoing Eaton Fire.
Rep. Judy Chu, whose congressional district includes the communities most affected by the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County, he led Members of Congress from California on a tour of the damaged areas and streets.
The Eaton Fire has grown to more than 14,100 acres with 15% containment, Cal Fire reported Saturday night. About 7,000 buildings were burned.

“I was very grateful to my colleagues Congress from California who were able to drop everything and show Los Angeles County and the entire community that we Californians have our backs,” Chu wrote in a statement released after the tour.
Pasadena Police Department and the City of Pasadena officers spoke to members about ongoing fire prevention and disaster relief efforts.

“Pasadena officials conveyed to my colleagues how difficult the task of rebuilding will be and how much support they need from the federal government to succeed,” Chu wrote. “They also highlight how many Black families, who found refuge from segregation and redling in Altadena and parts of Pasadena, have thrown away all the wealth of generations they had successfully built. Colleagues and they saw the streets, neighborhoods and public institutions completely destroyed.”

Damage estimates and economic loss on Thursday it increased to $ 135 billion, according to AccuWeather, an independent company that provides information on the weather and its impact.
Chu said he looks forward to working with his colleagues to secure the relief funds needed for recovery and rebuilding.

He also said he will push for legislation “to prevent tragedies like this from happening again.”

“Across every state, cooperation is critical to effectively respond to natural disasters and provide immediate and long-term relief to those who have lost loved ones or returned to their homes or businesses with nothing,” Chu wrote. “Fire victims in Southern California will rely on Congress to pass — for two reasons — emergency funding to support long-term relief efforts. … We have a long road ahead of us, But like any part of America, Californians deserve disaster relief that will give us the ability to rebuild.”
