Rs 20,000 crore for power, Rs 2,100 crore for smart meters, Rs 2,500 crore for cement biz: Adani's big plans for Bihar


Adani Group has announced several expected investments in Bihar, including thermal power, smart meters, cement, logistics, gas distribution and agri-supply sectors. The announcement was made by Pranav Adani, Managing Director (Agro, Oil & Gas) and Director, Adani Enterprises at the 2024 Bihar Business Connect Investor Conference on Friday.

“Nitish-ji, your vision and foresight is unmatched! 22 years ago, as our nation's railway minister, you introduced its biggest change ever – ticket booking system using automated software. On the first day it was only 29 bookings – now up to 13 lakh tickets are booked in a single day making it the world's busiest online booking platform! Adani thanked the chief.

Adani said their planned investments will also generate thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. Here's what Pranav Adani announced about the group's plans:

2,300 crore for three sectors: The group plans to invest Rs 2,300 crore in logistics, gas distribution and agri-supplies sectors, which will also create 27,000 additional direct and indirect local jobs. The group has already invested Rs 850 crore and created 25,000 jobs in these sectors, Adani said.

1,000 crore for strategic infrastructure: Adani said the company is working closely with CM Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government to invest Rs 1,000 crore to develop strategic infrastructure in the state, including Gati Shakti railway terminals, ICDs (Inland Container Depots) and industrial warehousing parks.

2,100 crore for smart meters: The company will invest Rs 2,100 crore to manufacture and install over 28 lakh smart meters to automate energy consumption monitoring in five cities including Siwan, Gopalganj, Vaishali, Saran and Samastipur. This will generate 4000 local jobs, he said.

2,500 million for cement production: Adani said the conglomerate will invest Rs 2,500 crore in Bihar to set up a 10 MMTPA cement manufacturing capacity at Warisaliganj in several phases. This will create 9,000 direct and indirect jobs. The foundation stone for this greenfield cement project was laid in July.

20,000 crore for power sector: The group also plans to invest around Rs 20,000 crore to set up an ultra-critical thermal power plant in Bihar. They expect the plant to create at least 12,000 jobs, and provide about 1,500 skilled jobs during the operational phase.
