It's a quiet period in late December for technology news. However, along with our usual tech retrospectives in 2024, the Russian government is cracking down on cryptocurrency and the final seasons of the popular Netflix phenomenon are approaching.
First, according to the state news agency TASS, the Russian government prohibited cryptomining in ten regions in six years. Russia cited high energy consumption in the industry as the main reason for the ban. Cryptocurrency mining operations already account for nearly 2.5 percent of U.S. energy consumption. The Russian ban comes into force on January 1 and will last until March 15, 2031. The currency in Russia became completely legal only in November.
