IJ Sainsbury is cutting 3,000 jobs as the UK's second largest supermarket seeks to cut costs and streamline its business.
The layoffs, of up to 2 percent of the group's workforce, will result in the closure of the remaining in-store cafes and a major change in management, with 20 percent of senior management roles expected to be made redundant.
The decision comes after the company said last year that it would cut £1bn in costs over the next three years. The restructuring also comes amid what chief executive Simon Roberts called a “challenging cost environment”.
