Ahead official start of CESSamsung has it announced a trio of new Odyssey gaming monitors. Of this entire group, the most interesting is the G81SF. Samsung says this is the first 27-inch OLED gaming monitor with 4K resolution. The panel has a 240Hz refresh rate and a gray-to-gray pixel response time of 0.03ms.
At 4K resolution and 27 inches, the pixel density is 165 pixels per inch, meaning the G81SF should produce incredibly sharp images. Since Samsung is the main supplier of QD-OLED, the G81SF panel will almost certainly appear on other gaming monitors released this year. With CES 2025 about to kick off, some of these could be announced in the next few days.
If you don't want to sacrifice motion clarity for sharpness, Samsung has you covered too. The second new Odyssey gaming monitor the company announced, the G60SF, has a 500Hz refresh rate. This model's resolution is limited to 2560 x 1440, but both the G6 and G8 above will deliver VESA True Black 400 certified HDR performance, so the G60SF is still great for single-player gaming and exceptional for competitive games like Overwatch 2 And Gradethanks to the 500 Hz refresh rate.
The completion of Samsung's new Odyssey monitors announced today is something of a curiosity and a throwback to CES. The 27-inch G90XF features a front-mounted lenticular lens and a stereo camera, meaning you can use it to watch 3D content without wearing 3D glasses. The G90XF includes artificial intelligence software that Samsung says can convert 2D video to 3D, but if we have to guess, the resulting footage won't look very good.
If you primarily use your computer for work, Samsung hasn't forgotten about you, and the company's new offerings are no less interesting. First up is the Smart Monitor M9 (M90SF). It features a 32-inch 4K OLED panel with True Black 400 HDR support. It also comes with Samsung's compact Easy Setup Stand, but what sets the M90SF apart from all the other monitors Samsung announced today are the pair of AI features that are included with it. The first, called AI Picture Optimizer, analyzes your PC's input signal and automatically adjusts the M9's display settings to create the best picture for the content you consume, be it a game, movie or productivity app. Another feature allows you to upscale lower resolution content to 4K.
Finally, there's the ViewFinity S8. It's not OLED, but at 37 inches, it's the largest 4K 16:9 monitor Samsung has ever offered. It offers 99 percent sRGB color gamut coverage, built-in KVM switch, and 90W USB-C power delivery. It's not the most impressive monitor in Samsung's new lineup, but it should appeal to design professionals who want the biggest screen possible but don't want to deal with the line distortion created by ultrawide monitors.
Samsung hasn't provided pricing or availability information for any of the monitors announced today. Expect these details to surface sometime after CES.
