Dune: Prophecy It's over. First season with epic 80 minute episode which is not connected to any story at all, including the important mystery about who or what used the forbidden technology to create it. At the press conference for the final episode of season 1, “The Highest Enemy” Dune: ProphecyShowrunner and executive producer Alison Schapker, along with stars Emily Watson (Valya Harkonnen) and Olivia Williams (Tula Harkonnen), mostly talked about season 1, but they teased a bit about what's to come.
Speaking about the series running across six episodes, considering the scope and number of characters, Schapker said the team stuck to one guiding rule: “To give each episode its own identity.”
But at the same time She adds that it's important to “feel like things have changed and the characters have gone through something that moves the story forward. And it is very important to always understand the story of Valya and the story of Desmond and Tula. I would say that they are our main characters. But back then it was just a matter of trying to introduce everyone. It is a big world and a dense world. So it's a bit of a balancing act. But I was very pleased with how the six episodes built up and ended in the finale.”
As for what she wanted to leave behind at the end of season 1, Schapker said: “I really wanted to feel like the ground was shifting under their feet. At the end of the season But at the same time We will have it revealed. It will give us a different understanding of these characters and their dynamics. And the story must be recontextualized. So that when the time comes you see the whole story You get the sense of, 'Oh, there's more going on than I first realized,' which I think is consistent with how the Brotherhood works—that sense that there's a plan within a plan, that there's more to the story than you first see. By the end of Season 1, I think you had a real sense of the sisters' history. (The Harkonnen) History of Sisterhood And then there was the real reveal. The truth came out. And that's important to me. That is a fundamental change in the dynamic.”
When asked about the character's state of mind at the end of Season 1, both Watson and Williams were reflective.
“I think everything (Things have changed between them),” Watson said. “But I think Valya is still holding on. (Her thought of) 'I am the chosen one.' I have a destiny. (That's still) your advice on the matter. But I really want to know what happens next.”
Williams added: “I think the big thing for Tula was the moment where (she said) ‘Please don’t kill my son.’ Trust me, I have this.’ And the fact that (Valya) trusted me. and (Leaving her with Desmond) Not knowing that after a while my son took me—(It was) that moment between the sisters in which Tula was finally trusted with something. Over the years, she Know that she is highly talented and efficient and is treated like a younger sister. Sometimes fictional people like to stay in the shadows. And it would be interesting to see what would happen if she was pushed to the front. And will she be able to handle it?”
Schapker created it. “I like the idea that you said: in some ways the sisters exchanged (places), in the sense that Valya retreated into the shadows, and suddenly Tula was ahead in the capital. And what would that mean? Let them move forward,” she said. “But I also think it's like the secret is out. The longer you keep it, pain around It must be burned… It makes you rethink your relationship that goes back several years or so. How could I have missed something?”
Watson added: “I think it was also a humbling moment because everything (my character did) was based on my leadership. My feelings for the truth. ” But in a way, Valya did not cause shame. It's like that. 'I don't act on my emotions and I'm not afraid. So I'm going to keep going.'”
It's probably the biggest question remaining after season one. Who is behind Desmond's transformation? Schapker remains vague on potential season two spoilers. “[If you]look back on season one, There are clues to Desmond's identity, his powers, and where it all came from,” she said. “As far as the mysterious figure, (His control over his fate is seen in his vision.) I think that remains to be seen in the future. But we try to cultivate it. I don't know if other people noticed. But the clothes he was carrying the first time we saw him When Desmond Hart appeared and saluted and walked up to the palace. He wore this black cloth. That's really a symbol of his mother, and it (reappears) throughout the series. He uses it in his personal moments as (a way to maintain) his drive and connection. He finally meets up with her and grabs her real dress, and realizes that it was once his baby blanket that she wrapped him in (that is, (the sibling cloth he was wrapped in And he's finally with his mother. I mean, we try to do things like that to build and predict where the story is going to go.”
OK, but what's the second big question: What happens when Valya Harkonnen, Keiran Atreides, and Princess Ynez are at Arrakis? Here's Schapker with some hints, as expected. But there are not many details.
“After a season where Arrakis was trying to pull it off from afar—be it the economics of the spice trade. Or the psychological aspects of the visions and nightmares that chart Arrakis and Desmond's path that seep into everyone's consciousness—(it It's our chance) to really put our boots on the ground. In something incredibly overdue and almost legendary. sand dunes An area we know well but we keep it away throughout the season. I think it is very important that Valya returns there.
