United States Coast Guard California authorities said six people are suspected in a deadly human-smuggling incident on the Golden State's southwest border last week.
These events involved more than 60 people and took place between Dec. 23 and Dec. 29, according to the USCG.

“Sadly, this effort has cost many lives. Going to sea in unfit boats with unqualified captains in cold, unforgiving waters is dangerous,” the statement read.
On December 11, the USCG issued a similar statement saying that 14 people are suspected people smugglers incidents involving 73 people over a seven-day period.

They cited potential problems and water temperature below 60 degrees, which can cause hypothermia in less than 30 minutes.
“Attempts to cheat put lives at serious risk,” the USCG said.
