Sony is now the largest shareholder in parent company FromSoftware.


Sony acquired Kadokawa. This follows reports that Sony was in talks with . That doesn't appear to be happening, but Sony has increased its total stake in Kadokawa to ten percent by spending about $300 million on additional shares. This makes Sony the largest shareholder of the Japanese publisher.

Sony likely made this move to acquire some of Kadokawa's intellectual property, which includes FromSoftware's entire slate of games and franchises created by Spike Chunsoft and Gotcha Gotcha Games. Kadokawa also publishes many anime and manga. The press release notes that the two companies will now “discuss specific collaboration initiatives” that will include “feature films and television dramas.”

Does this mean we'll soon get Elden Ring or Dark souls movie? These are some of Kadokawa's most famous franchises, so it's certainly possible. The companies also promised to facilitate the “global expansion of a wide range of entertainment, including anime and games.”

When it comes to console exclusivity, don't hold your breath. Sony already owns 14 percent of FromSoftware and games such as Elden Ring And Ax: Shadows die twice available on PlayStation, Xbox and PC consoles. For this there is some kind of co-op DLC will be released Elden Ring sometime next year.
