'Super sanctuary' immigration policy threatens lives and helps violent criminals

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger once said that “government's first job and highest responsibility is public safety.” He was right.

Less than a decade later, progressive Democrats in Sacramento swept California's already notorious “the state of the sanctuary“law, to abandon public protections for what they consider to be a just and important cause; to ensure that immigrants who are here legally will not face deportation if they commit crimes.

Instead of removing illegal immigrant criminals from our cities by releasing them to federal agents for deportation, law enforcement agencies across the country have been forced to release them back onto our streets where they often offend, sometimes with dire consequences bad.

LEFT WITH ICE UNTIL THE TRUMP-ERA IN FY 2024 WHEN THE BIDEN ADMIN ARRIVES.

In 2021, immigration officials attempted to detain an illegal alien who was already subject to deportation when he was arrested for domestic violence after assaulting the mother of his child three years old. Instead, because of these “sanctuary” policies, he was released the next day. He proceeded to shoot her dead in front of their daughter.

Earlier this year, I visited our southern border and spoke with immigration officials who warned of this danger. illegal immigrant criminals collection. They expressed great concern about the increasing number of young men crossing the border, fearing that some may have criminal histories unknown at home. But in San Diego, even as these illegal immigrants continue to commit crimes, our law enforcement agencies are hindered by these reckless “sanctuary” policies.

These laws have hurt Californians and will continue to do so. But now, in their incomparable wisdom, the San Diego County Democrat Board of Supervisors has decided to take things up a notch.

Current law allows space in law enforcement cooperating with federal immigration officials in extreme cases such as homicide and gang violence, but the board thought that even that was too difficult for these criminals. Last week, they voted to make San Diego County a “super state” where under no circumstances can local law enforcement cooperate with the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency without a judge's order. of the government.

In their race to see who hates Trump the most, three Democrats on the board voted to ensure that even if illegal immigrants are arrested for murder, rape, child abuse or trafficking of drugs, they will not be deported. That means that if the case falls because a witness disappears or decides not to testify, as is often the case, the illegal immigrants who killed San Diegans will be freed to kill again in our cities even if ICE they are asking to be deported.

They say it's a step against Trump's policies that would allow many of these illegal immigrants to be deported, but it's actually a big step, much more than that. It amounts to fully aiding and abetting hardened, violent criminals who are in our country illegally and commit heinous and violent crimes in our communities.

And for what purpose? Inciting and opposing the incoming president for continued brownie points? To be seen standing up to a perceived boogeyman by defending yourself and moving around in real life right here in our cities?

This is reprehensible. Our job as elected officials is to protect the people we represent. The families and communities that chose us. It is to take care of their interests and safety above all. This is not that.

There is hope, however, as San Diego County Sheriff Kelly Martinez announced that he will not pursue a new “the great sanctuary,” citing his status as an independent elected official whose policy is not set by the District Court.

In the meantime, I and other elected officials of the Republic of San Diego are working to find a solution to combat the board's stupidity at the state level.

We have to go back to your time elected leaders put working on behalf of their constituents rather than engaging in political battles for headlines. Until then politicians prioritized keeping hardworking, everyday people safe rather than protecting illegal criminals here who want to harm them.

Today I am calling on the Board of Supervisors to reconsider this new “sanctuary high ground” plan and I am calling on the people of San Diego to speak up and make your voices heard. If this “super sanctuary” policy is not what you want in your community, call your supervisor and let them know. Because, as Governor Schwarzenegger said, your safety is meant to be their first job and highest commitment.
