Asaad al-Shaibani's visit to Qatar comes as the new regime seeks support from the Arab world following the ouster of al-Assad.
Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani has arrived in Qatar as part of his regional visit to seek support from the new government that came to power after the ouster of President Bashar al-Assad last month.
The Syrian news agency SANA confirmed the arrival of the delegation on Sunday, which includes the country's defense minister Murhaf Abu Qasra and intelligence chief Anas Khattab.
Al-Shaibani is expected to meet Qatari officials, including Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Khulaifi, on his first visit to the Gulf state. The journey comes about two weeks after al-Khulaifi went to Damascus to negotiate with the new government officials.
Al-Khulaifi's visit came 13 days after Doha opened its embassy in Damascus. Qatar has not joined other Arab countries in recognizing al-Assad, who has fled to Russia since fleeing the country on December 8.
Syria's new government is seeking funding from wealthy Gulf nations to help rebuild the country's infrastructure and boost its economy, which has been devastated by more than a decade of war.
Al Jazeera's Steffanie Dekker reporting from Doha said talks between Qatari officials and Syrian delegations should focus on “strengthening relations, security, reconstruction”.
“This is an interim government that is facing serious challenges in terms of restoring Syria. It needs money,” he added.
Al-Shaibani is expected to travel to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan this week to “support stability, security, economic recovery and create a special partnership”, according to his account on X.
He began his first visit to Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, where Saudi officials discussed how to support political change in Syria.
Meanwhile on Friday, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Lebanese acting Prime Minister Najib Mikati agreed by phone to restore order along the 375km (233 miles) border following clashes between Lebanese troops and Syrian rebels that left five of them injured. .
Al-Sharaa is the leader Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) group, which led the capture of Damascus from al-Assad's regime.
