Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu has died of pneumonia after being infected with the flu while on vacation in Japan, a report by local media. She was 48.
HSU is one of the biggest names in the world of Mandarin speaking and is best known for its participation in the 2001 television series Meteor Garden.
Meteor Garden was named in several languages and made HSU a big star in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
Her sister Dee Hsu confirmed her death at Taiwan's TVBS News on Monday.
“During the Lunar New Year or the family came to Japan for a vacation. My most expensive sister Barbie unfortunately left us after receiving a pneumonia triggered by the flu,” Di Hsu said in a statement shared by her manager.
“I am grateful that I am her sister during this life, taking care of each other … I will always be grateful and will remember her.”
