The Thales missile factory is to deliver 5,000 air defense missiles to Ukraine, the prime minister said.
The deal costs up to £ 1.6 billion and will include raising 200 additional employees.
Thales is a French company that one of the largest weapons manufacturers in Europe.
The order is for light rockets with multi -rockets (LMM) that Ukrainian forces already use.
Prime Minister Sir Kayer Starmer announced the order as he set out a four -point plan “Reach peace and protect Ukraine”S
Eastern Belfast MP and DUP leader Gavin Robinson said the order was “extremely relevant” given the “turbulence” in international relations and the recognition of the “skill and inventions” of the Thales team.
A contract for £ 162 million, announced in September last year, was held 650 lmm delivered to Ukraine as an initial order to increase production, with the first supplies in December.
The new order is much larger: it is worth the original £ 1.16 billion with a potential of about 500 million pounds to be added in collaboration with an Ukrainian partner in the industry.
The partner company will produce launches and will manage and control vehicles for missiles in Ukraine.
Robinson said there was no point in talking about international principles and values, “if you are not ready to uphold them.”
“We give the tools to make sure that the sovereign country has the ability to stand against an international aggressor in Russia, a country that decides to cross the border, destroy cities, villages and cities and kill civilians,” he said.
Robinson added that defense costs are “encouraging” to the Northern Ireland industry and economy.
The United Kingdom Department of Defense (MoD) stated that this is the largest contract received by Thales in Belfast.
Defense Minister John Heli said the deal “would” help to protect Ukraine from drone and rocket attacks and to help with more Russian aggression after each end of the fighting. “
The contract was concluded by the defense equipment and support of MOD's hand for public procurement on behalf of the Ukrainian government.
It will be funded by a loan signed by the UK export (UKEF) after a deal signed last year to allow Ukraine to attract the £ 3.5 billion in UKEF to spend the United Kingdom industry.
