The British tourist dies while walking with a friend in the Himalayas

The British tourist died while coming with a friend in the Himalaya mountains in northern India.

The two British men traveled an “extremely difficult terrain” near the village of Technii in Dhararashala when one of them was critically wounded, local emergency services said.

The man was rescued and removed along the mountain of a stretcher, but by the time he reached the hospital nearly 24 hours later, he was declared dead, rescuers said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it “supports the family of a British man who died in India and is in contact with local authorities.”

According to The Times of India, the couple walked on Triund Trek, a popular route of about 7 km (4.3 miles) at the foot of the Dhauladhar mountain chain.

They were down when one of the men fell and his friend sought help from the nearby village, newspapers reported.

Local rescuers, Himachal Pradesh disasters, told X, that the call for their help had entered 18:00 on Sunday, and a team of 10 people were sent to the Men Search Mountain.

“After four hours, the team found the victims at 10:30 pm with a critical hike. They provided the critical hike of a stretcher and began the challenging descent along with its Co Trekker.

“The rough terrain and the multiple river intersections have made progress extremely slow, requiring nearly two hours to cover only 100 meters.”

At night, the team asked for a backup and more rescuers arrived in the morning.

“They continued to transport the victims, but were confronted with exceptional difficulties due to the steep landscape, requiring multiple fasteners of the stretcher.”

The man was finally taken to hospital at 17:08 on Monday, but was declared dead on his arrival, rescuers added. His friend was unharmed.

Local authorities in the Canra neighborhood had brought a temporary ban on hikes to high altitude, but The Times of India says the two tourists did not know about it.

It says they reached the snow line – the part of the mountain where the snow is on the ground throughout the year.

The victim has not yet been officially identified.
