The French Minister apologizes to Liverpool fans for the chaos of the Champions League

The former French Interior Minister apologized for the first time for Fiasco in 2022 at Stade de France Who saw Liverpool's football supporters mistakenly accused of rebellion.

Geral Darman acknowledged that the security arrangements of the Champions League final between Liverpool and Real Madrid are wrong and that his first public remarks – accusing English fans – are a mistake.

“It was a failure because I had not predicted. It was a mistake on my part. I was misled by my prejudices,” said Darman, now Minister of Justice of French.

“The victim was easy to find and now I apologize to Liverpool's supporters. They were quite correct to be hurt. It was a mistake and a failure.”

Police used tear gas for Liverpool supporters, and some fans were enchanted by bands of French youth.

In a long interview with Legend YouTube Channel, Darman said the night was the “worst failure” of his career.

“What I didn't appreciate tonight was that the real problem was not coming from adherents to English, but from criminals who robbed fans.

“Our security arrangements were not designed for this possibility. We had a police for riots … with big boots and shields – it's not great for running. What you need for this type of crime is officers in running shoes.

“We were mistaken for our arrangements. We were expecting a war on (football) hooligans and what we received instead was Muggs.”

In their first comments after the problems, Darman and police chief Didier Lalement said the dangerous crush of the stadium was largely caused by Liverpool fans having counterfeit tickets.

Subsequently, the claim was debunked in an independent report ordered by UEFA.

In another section of the interview, Darman said that there is no longer a safe place in France – a comment that has become lit by a firmly right opposition.

“What many French can see is that (violence) has become common, it is metastasized. It's no longer only in places where you have ever sought potential problems.

“Nowadays you can see that the largest village has experience with cocaine or cannabis.”

National rally MP Jean-Philip Tangi noted that Darman was in the government after the first election of President Emanuel Macron in 2017.

Tungai said “heals the French as imbeciles, making all these so -called difficult declarations when the recording is so catastrophic.”

Darman, who is 42 and from the political right, did nothing in the interview to dispel speculation that he could run to replace Macron in 2027.

“Do I think about the presidential election? The answer is yes,” he said.

“This does not mean that I will be a candidate, but it means that I have ambitions for the country to do better than what I see now.”
