WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez, who claims to have won the July presidential election and is recognized by many countries as president-elect, said on Monday he had a good meeting with US President Joe Biden and is in contact with the US President. – elected Donald Trump.

Gonzalez's visit to Washington comes as part of a regional tour just days before President Nicolas Maduro, recognized by Venezuela's highest court and electoral authority as the winner, is expected to be elected to his third term.

“We had a long, fruitful and friendly conversation with President Biden and his team,” Gonzalez told reporters after the meeting at the White House. “Our team is in contact with President Trump's team.”

He expects the relationship with the Trump administration to be close, Gonzalez added.
