The fire broke out on the fifth floor of a hotel near the popular Khao San Road, the fire department said.
Three foreign tourists have died in a fire at a hotel in a popular tourist area of Bangkok, the Thai capital, according to authorities.
The fire broke out on the fifth floor of the Ember Hotel on Sunday night, the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department said on Monday.
A woman died at the scene and two men died at the hospital, the fire department said.
Seven others are being treated at the hospital, according to fire officials.
The names and nationalities of the deceased were not immediately released.
The hotel is located just a short walk from Khao San Road, a famous night spot that attracts people from all over the world.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt told reporters that there were 75 people in the hotel at the time of the fire and 34 people were rescued from the roof of the building.
Chadchart said he ordered officials to conduct a city-wide inspection of fire escapes in hotels and resorts due to the fire.
“We have to build trust and take care of visitors,” Chadchart said.
Tourism is a major contributor to Thailand's economy, which is the second largest in Southeast Asia, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the country's gross domestic product.
The country has welcomed more than 32 million visitors this year, with Chinese making up the largest share of arrivals, followed by Malaysians, Indians and South Koreans.
