The coming ones The Trump administration is looking at arresting illegal immigrants across the country as soon as the first day, as officials say they are ready to “break the chains” of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The Wall Street Journal reports that the administration is planning a major attack on Chicago on Tuesday, targeting criminals in particular.
Incoming border chief Tom Homan was asked by Fox News' Jesse Watters about media reports of a “massive raid” on Tuesday in Chicago, but Homan said ICE will work across the country.

“There's going to be a massive crackdown across the country. Chicago is one of many places. We have 24 field offices across the country. On Tuesday, ICE is finally going to go out and do their job. . We're going to take the reins out of ICE and let them go and catch criminals from other countries, that's what's going to happen,” he said.
“What we're telling ICE, you're going to enforce immigration law without apology. You're going to focus on the worst first, the threats to public safety first, but nobody's off the table. If they're in the middle of the table. In an illegal country, they have a problem,” he said.
The administration has promised to crack down on mass deportations, as well as increase border security. Officials have said they intend to target people with criminal histories and convictions, but have also stressed they can arrest anyone in the US illegally. There are currently more than 7 million people on ICE's unsealed docket.

“Management is very clear that we will start making arrests on day one, and Chicago may not be the only place where the arrests will take place,” a source familiar with the matter told Fox News Digital.
The system is expected to see a big pushback from cities “sanctuary”. which refuses to allow state and local law enforcement to honor ICE detainers – calls for ICE to be notified when illegal aliens in custody are released.
Some Democratic officials in Chicago, as well as Massachusetts and Arizona said they would not cooperate with the administration.

But New York City Mayor Eric Adams has met with Homan about how they can work together to remove illegal immigrants convicted of violent crimes.

Kristi Noem, DHS candidate testified to Congress on Friday, and supported him behind the crackdown on mass deportations and increased border security. He also said the administration will immediately end the use of the CBP One tool, which currently allows immigrants to enter the US.
