President-elect Trump stepped up his calls for the US to take over owners of Greenland in a funny social media post on Monday.
The move comes as the president's son, Donald Trump Jr., prepares to visit Greenland on Tuesday. This trip will be done individually, and he is not expected to meet government officials.
In a Public Truth post, President-elect Trump said he “heard that the people of Greenland are 'MAGAs'.” The Republic has posted a video it says shows a Greenlander asking the US to buy his country.
“If you could tell Trump anything, what would it be?” the woman can be heard asking the man in the video.
“Buy us. Buy Greenland,” the man in the MAGA hat replied.

The Greenlander then added that he “loves Americans” and wants to be free from Danish rule.
He explained: “We no longer want to be colonized by the Danish government. “We are cheated (deprived) every year (of) our minerals from Greenland. We are the richest country in the world. And we can't use it. Denmark uses us a lot. “
In his message, Trump confirmed that he was he plans to visit Greenland soon and that his son, Donald Trump, Jr., will be in the country soon. The president-elect said he plans to see some of the “most beautiful places and beautiful places of the island”.
“Greenland is an amazing place, and the people will benefit greatly if, and when, it becomes part of our Nation,” Trump wrote on Monday. “We will protect it, and preserve it, from a very cruel and extraterrestrial Earth. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!”
Trump's latest post comes two weeks after he first made headlines by offering support for US ownership of Greenland.
“(F)or the purposes of National Security and Liberty in the World, the United States of America feels that possession and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” the President-elect's post by Public Truth reads.

In response, the Prime Minister of Greenland Dumb Egede he declared his interest in his country gaining independence from Denmark.
“The upcoming new election period must, together with the citizens, create these new measures, based on the foundations that have already been established,” said Egede. “It is time for us to take the initiative and shape our future, also in terms of who we will work closely with, and who our business partners will be.”
Trump has considered buying Greenland for several years now. In 2019, he downplayed the idea of buying Greenland and called it a “big real estate deal”.
“A lot of things can be done. It hurts Denmark a lot because they lose about $700 million a year that they carry,” Trump said at the time. “So, they bear it at a great loss, and strategically for the United States, it would be great. Also, we are a great friend of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark.”
In an interview on “Fox News Sunday” about Trump's comments, White House chief economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed the president's comments.
“Greenland is a strategic place up there, and they have a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow explained at the time.

“I don't want to predict the outcome. I'm just saying the president, who knows a thing or two about real estate, wants to take a look.”
