Washington – US President Donald Trump will speak remotely at the World Economic Forum on Wednesday in Davos, Switzerland, making his first major speech to world business leaders and politicians.
Trump is due to give a speech and join the debate at 11 a.m. Eastern time (1600 GMT), according to the meeting schedule. It is not clear what he will talk about.
Trump's nationalist mentality has been on full display since he took office on Monday.
The newly elected president has moved quickly to crack down on immigration, increase domestic energy production, and threaten to impose rising tariffs on the European Union, China, Mexico and Canada.
Trump also withdrew the United States from the World Health Organization and the Paris climate agreement. He says he will name the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, although other countries may not accept the new name. He threatened to take back the Panama Canal from Panama.
He also pardoned more than 1,500 supporters who stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 in a failed attempt to overturn his 2020 election loss, citing lawmakers and police whose lives were at risk.
Trump is dismantling the US government's diversity programs and pressuring the private sector to do the same. That left some at Davos looking for new words to describe workplace practices they say are important to their businesses.
