The Association of Journalists reports that two journalists working for Kurdish media were killed in the north of the country Syria covering the fighting between Turkish-backed militants and Syrian Kurdish militias.
The Turkey-based Dicle-Firat Journalists Association said on Friday that Nazim Dastan and Cihan Bilgin were killed on Thursday when their car was reportedly targeted by a Turkish drone on a road near the Tisrin Dam.
The Tishrin Dam, located about 56 miles east of Aleppo, has been the scene of clashes between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed opposition forces.
There were no comments from Turkish officials.
Bianet, a news website focused on human rights issues, reported that Bilgin was a reporter for the Kurdish news agency Hawar, while Dastan worked as a freelance journalist for the Firat news agency, which is affiliated with the militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK).
Turkey considers the SDF a terrorist organization, as its main component is a group linked to the PKK.
The group has been waging an armed struggle against the Turkish state since the 1980s in pursuit of its goal of securing autonomy for the country's Kurds.
