Two people have been killed and one injured after a student carried out a knife attack at a school in eastern Slovakia.
Local police initially said the suspect – an 18-year-old high school student – was running away and urged people not to approach him.
A little later, however, he was detained. “We assure the public that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure you feel safe,” police said.
They add that the teenager's victims are two classmates and a teacher.
Slovak media reported that the attack took place in Spišska Stara Ves, a town of 2,000 near the Polish border, around 1:00 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT).
Several emergency medical teams responded to the scene, broadcaster TA3 said.
