Milind Chandwani, an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) graduate and founder of Camp Diaries Bengaluru, had an unexpected nighttime adventure during a cab ride.
In a video shared on Instagram, Chandwani said a routine trip took an unusual turn at 3 am when his sleepy driver tried to stay awake, prompting him to take the wheel and drive the cab himself.
In his post, Chandwani recounted the unusual but reflective experience: “Last night at 3 am while returning from the Bangalore airport, I had an unexpected role: my cab driver's driver. He was very sleepy, he even stopped to drink tea and cigarettes but still could not open his eyes. So, I offered to drive and to my surprise, he handed me the keys faster than I could even say 'Bangalore traffic'.
The video accompanying the post shows the original cab driver fast asleep in the passenger seat while Chandwani navigates the vehicle through the streets of Bangalore with the help of Google Maps.
Reflecting on the extraordinary experience, Chandwani expressed a mix of emotions: “I felt a mix of emotions: happy that he trusted me, sad that he had to push himself so hard, and quite happy at how quickly he decided I was qualified. job He was tipped Rs 100 and asked for a 5-star rating in return—fair trade, right?”
He ended his talk on a thoughtful note about compassion and adaptability: “Life is full of unexpected turns. Be kind, be sensitive, and maybe improve your driving skills. You never know when they will come in handy.”
“The most important moral of the story? When you offer something, be ready for the other person to accept your offer,” he added.
Since it was uploaded, the post has received over 11 million views. The comments section was flooded with reactions from social media users. “Kindness is rare and you are one of the keepers,” one user commented. Another wrote, “It takes real presence of mind and care to drive a cab at 3am to ensure someone's safety. Hope the cab driver gets some rest too.”
