Vietnam is committed to eliminating all tariffs on American imports after Donald Trump announced a 46 percent tariff on South Asia, according to a letter of April 5 from the Vietnam Communist Party.
The offer was issued by the party chief to Lam in a letter to the President of the United States which was seen by Bloomberg. In the letter, Lam requested that America not use any additional tariffs or fees on Vietnamese goods and asked to postpone the implementation of Trump's tariffs announced last week and at least 45 days after April 9.
The letter confirms Trump's views on Friday on his reality social network, following a phone call between the two leaders. Vietnam, which is increasingly becoming the main means of manufacturing and shipping to China, was struck by one of the highest tax rates in the world last Wednesday.
