WASHINGTON – The Joint Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has notified the heads of agencies and departments that they must begin taking measures to close all. diversity, equity and inclusion offices at the end of the day Wednesday and put government workers in those offices on paid leave, Fox News Digital has learned.
Office of Personnel Management Director Charles Ezell sent out an invitation to heads and participating heads of departments and agencies on Tuesday evening instructing them that before 5pm on Wednesday, January 22nd they:
- Send a notice to employees widely to inform them of the closure and ask employees if they are aware of any attempts to hide these programs by using written or inappropriate language.
- Send notice to all employees of the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) offices that they are being placed on paid administrative leave immediately when the agency takes steps to close/terminate all DEIA initiatives, offices and programs.
- Delete all external-facing media (websites, social media accounts, etc.) of DEIA offices
- Remove any final or pending documents, orders, directives, tools and equity plans issued by the agency in response to the now revoked Executive Order 14035, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access in the Federal Workforce (June 25 , 2021)
- Cancel any DEIA-related training and terminate DEIA-related contractors

The memo also directed the heads of departments and agencies that by noon on Thursday, January 23, they must share with OPM:
- A full list of DEIA offices and any employees who were in those offices as of 5 November 2024
- Full list of all DEIA related contracts as of 5 November 2024
- Any agency plans to fully comply with the above executive orders and this memorandum
By Friday at 5 p.m., agency heads must submit to OPM:
- A written plan to implement a downsizing measure in relation to the staff working in the DEIA office
- A list of all contract specifications or staff position specifications that have been changed since November 5, 2024, to hide their connection to DEIA programs.

The memo comes after President Trump signed an executive order to end all DEI programs in the federal government.
The president also signed an executive order making it “the official policy of the US government to admit only two genders: men and women.”
