Prithvi Shawhis exclusion from mumbaiHis squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 did not sit well with the batsman and even raised many eyebrows, but his fall was not surprising given his recent struggles with the bat in domestic competitions.
The Mumbai batsman was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad just two months ago and now his fate has been no different as he is once again being shown the door for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. The young opener, who has been silent amid all the chatter, has finally broken his silence on the snub.
Prithvi Shaw breaks silence after missing out on Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 selection
Reacting to his omission, Prithvi Shaw took to social media, no doubt sharing his A-List stats in an Instagram story. He posted: “Tell me Lord what else do I need to see… If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I am not good enough… but I will keep my faith in you and hope that people still believe in me… because I will definitely be back. Om Sai Ram.”
Now Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has reacted to the whole situation as his career seems to be in darkness. Behind the scenes, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the team management are not impressed with Prithvi Shaw's fitness and discipline and these issues are holding him back.
His performance in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 was poor, where Shaw failed to make an impact despite Mumbai winning the title. In nine innings, the 25-year-old couldn't even reach 200 runs, averaging under 25 and dropping steadily while facing the new ball.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is not happy with Prithvi Shaw's fitness and performance
Meanwhile, a source within the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) revealed that Prithvi Shaw has been dropped from the squad due to his fitness and performance issues. Although his talent is well recognised, the source stressed that Shaw needs to focus on improving his fitness, discipline and overall performance.
He added that the Indian batsman's fitness problem is visible for all to see, with his body showing signs of needing attention. MCA will hopefully address these areas and come back strong as I believe it has the potential but needs to put in the effort to realize it.
Must work on fitness, discipline and performance: MCA
An MCA source was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying, “The fitness concern is there but the performance is not there at the moment. Must work on fitness, discipline and performance. The main issue is fitness. See the matches. You get the picture, right? Just by looking at his frame, the fitness issues are there for all to see. Hopefully he is working on these issues and will come back strong. We all know his talent. It's just about him putting in the hard yards.”
Earlier, the Mumbai white ball captain, Shreyas Iyerhe said they can't babysit anyone and every pro player needs to know what they should do. Iyer observed that Shaw needs to focus, sit back and then figure it out for himself as no one can force him to do anything.
