David Benavidez says he expects former Cuban amateur star David Morrell crawl at his feet after beating him on February 1st, admitting that 'The Mexican Monster' was “the best” after beating him at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) says ALL of his opponents follow the same formula where they trash talk him, saying he's a “tramp,” has “no defense” and is a limited fighter. But after he beats them, they sing a different tune, showering him with compliments.
What Benavidez doesn't point out is that the guys he fought during his long career were smaller guys, like Demetrius Andrade, Caleb Plant, David Lemieux, Anthony Dirrell and Ronald Ellis. Those were the best Benavidez fought before making the jump to 175 last June.
“I have nothing. I'm a vagabond. I'm RoboCop. It's okay that he thinks that way,” David Benavidez told Boxing News about how David Morrell sees him as a second-rate fighter. “You better have no excuses after I knock you out in front of your own people.
“What are you going to say? You will say that David Benavidez is the best. Just like you and everyone else I've fought before. They say the same thing. Once they get in the ring with me, it's a whole different story. And you will see,” said Benavidez.
That sounds sick. As you can see, interim WBC light heavyweight champion Benavidez has created a completely unrealistic cartoon in his head. The fight is more likely to go the other way around, with Morrell winning and Benavidez saying afterwards, »How could I be wrong?'
Morrell's power
It will be interesting to see if Benavidez, 28, can get away with fighting the same style he did at 168 when he steps into the ring with Morrell, who is a monstrous two-handed puncher.
Benavidez may not last long against Morrell fighting the way he has in his last three contests, most notably against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15th. Morrell punches too hard and will punch holes through Benavidez if he tries to overwhelm him with volume like he did against the 37-year-old Gvozdyk.
