Marcus Rashford has been left out of Manchester United's squad for Manchester United's Carabao Cup game against Tottenham.
It comes just days after he was left out of Ruben Amorim's Manchester derby squad at the weekend, which United won 2-1. Rashford missed training earlier this week due to illness, however, Amorim confirmed he will be in training ahead of the trip to Spurs.
Rashford's exclusion from the squad comes after the 27-year-old admitted he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with Henry Winter.
However, United boss Amorim refused to close the door on Rashford's future at Old Trafford and insisted in his pre-match press conference that the team is better off with the England international in it.
Alejandro Garnacho, who was also ruled out for the Manchester derby, will play in United's squad for the match against Spurs.
'Amorim tries to get a tune out of Rashford'
Melissa Reddy from Sky Sports News:
With no market for Rashford, Amorim is trying different methods to get the tune out of him. “For so long, for example with Rasha, you try something, it doesn't work,” he said. “Should we keep doing the same thing? Or something different?”
Being left out of the squad against Manchester City has so far had the desired effect of raising the standard of training and the attitude of the players.
Rashford took to social media to post a photo of United's celebration after Amad's sensational winner with the caption “Yessssssss! Love it guys”. It was seen as confirmation of Amorim's comment that everything, including “engagement with teammates” will be taken into account when he selects his matchday squad.
Where will Rashford end up?
Football journalist Henry Winter:
“He made it clear to me that when he said a new challenge, it was away from Old Trafford. There's no ambiguity about that. It's now a question of when, not if. Whether it's a loan in January, that's going to be complicated job for many reasons, but it looks like it's out.
“The only problem with going to Saudi Arabia is that he really wants to get back into the England national team and play in the World Cup in America. I don't think Saudi Arabia would be right for him. Real Madrid have Kylian Mbappe, Rashford not at his level, no money for Juventus, but it is a complicated business.
