South Africa's injury woes deepen as Baartman misses final ODI
of South Africa The bowling woes have worsened as Ottneil Baartman has been ruled out of the third ODI against Pakistan with a right knee injury. Baartman felt discomfort during his run while bowling before the second ODI. Although he did not feature in the match, he played in the first ODI and took 2 for 37 in seven overs.
Corbin Bosch, who was recently called up to the South African Test squad, has been named as Baartman's replacement for the ODIs. Bosch is also in line to make his Test debut on Boxing Day against Pakistan.
List of growing injuries of South Africa
The Proteas' injury list continues to grow, with Baartman now the sixth player to be ruled out this summer. Ahead of him, key players such as Gerald Coetzee, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Lizaad Williams and Wiaan Mulder have already dealt with injuries. Additionally, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj also suffered a groin strain during this series.
Wiaan Mulder, recovering from a broken finger, remains a doubtful starter for the Boxing Day Test. This gives Bosch an opportunity to strengthen his case for a starting place in the Test team.
Redemption opportunity on pink day
South Africa have already lost the three-match ODI series to Pakistan. This will be South Africa's last ODI fielding a full-strength side ahead of next year's Champions Trophy.
Despite the injuries, South Africa has seen the emergence of promising talent. Kwena Maphaka, an 18-year-old quick, made his ODI debut and impressed with figures of 4 for 72.
