Bill Haney targets Tank Davis for Devin's return

Bill Haney says he wants Gervont Davis next in place of Devin Haney after Tank defends his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach on March 1st.

If Bill gets his wish, Devin will end a long layoff to fight Tank (30-0, 28 KOs). He may have to drop to 135 or a catch weight of 137.

Bill Haney wants Davis Bout

The contest would be seen as a payoff for Haney, 26, who is coming back from a loss and possibly at an all-time low in confidence. Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) hasn't fought since losing to Ryan Garcia on April 20, and Bill says Dev will be out of the ring for a year before fighting again.

“We don't take s**t. Tank Davis when he was done with Lamont Roach. How about that?” Bill Haney told Knockoutboxing86 TV, when asked who Devin Haney is fighting next.

It's hard to say motives behind Bill Haney bringing up Tank Davis' name as the guy he wants Devin to fight next. Could it be one of these reasons:

A. Clout is chasing Devin's name in the spotlight
B. Pay a large salary before retirement
C. Belief that Devin can win
D. Career revival at 135 against smaller fighters

Devin back to lightweight?

Haney could reinvent himself by moving back to 135 and using his massive size for that division, as he did before moving up to 140 in 2023.

Keyshawn Davis, a massive 135 with a welterweight frame (147), is getting away with moving down to lightweight to enjoy smaller fighters. If Keyshawn could pull it off, Haney could join the party, rejuvenate his career and get that big payday against Tank Davis.

Devin will have to retire quickly as Tank sounds serious about retiring after three more fights in 2025. He's made a lot of money in his career and doesn't seem interested in fighting after next year.

The loss to Ryan appears to have dashed Haney's ambitions. The two-division world champion hasn't done anything since Kingry beat him last April.
