Mason Mount 'Weeks'

Manchester United will be without midfielder Mason Mount for several weeks, with new manager Ruben Amorim promising to help the Englishman recover.

United were stunned after 14 minutes of last week's 2-1 win over rivals Manchester City and are sitting out the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after losing away to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

The former Chelsea player missed four months of last season with a calf injury and has only been able to play 12 games this season due to a number of setbacks.

Asked how long Mount would be out ahead of Sunday's trip to Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Several weeks.

“I don't know the exact date, but he has been gone for a long time. In that sense, it is part of football and we continue to do it.

“All I can do is help Mase and teach him how to play our game when he recovers. Try to spend that time thinking about different things for him. And I think the worst part is that when you're recovering from so many injuries, you don't have time to train like you should.

“We're always on the go; We have games, So the training is that we don't have the same thing with all the teams. It's really hard to recreate the game before they started it. It's really difficult for a player to rest for a long time and he's really trying.”

Team news

Luke Shaw is unavailable for Bournemouth, but Marcus Rashford is in contention.

Amorim again left Rashford out of his squad for the midweek clash against Tottenham, only by “selection”, but it came just 48 hours after the United Academy product declared himself “ready for a new challenge”.

After Rashford also failed to win against Manchester City, when asked if he was left out for disciplinary reasons, Amorim replied, “No. same thing It's the same. Absolutely the same.”

Asked if Rashford could face Bournemouth, Amorim said: “Yes.”
