Netflix has secured an exclusive deal for US rights to the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women's World Cups.
The streaming service has reached an agreement with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to broadcast the 2027 and 2031 FIFA Women's World Cups.
This is the first time Netflix has acquired the rights to a full sports tournament and they have promised American fans “comprehensive coverage” and “unparalleled access” to the women's soccer event.
Netflix has also announced that it will curate an exclusive documentary series ahead of the two tournaments, spotlighting some of the biggest names in women's football.
“Bringing this iconic tournament to Netflix isn't just about streaming the matches, it's also about celebrating the players, the culture and the passion that drives the global growth of women's sport,” said Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria .
FIFA has described the new deal as one that “further reinforces the tournament's status as the biggest women's sporting event on the planet and provides an outstanding platform to further promote the game”.
The streaming service will include Puerto Rico and offer live coverage of every game in English and Spanish.
The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup will take place from June 24 to July 25, with Brazil as the confirmed hosts of the 32-nation tournament.
