Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has hit back at his many critics, one of whom is former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher, describing some of the comments as “insulting”.
Spurs have enjoyed and endured a dizzying array of highs and lows under Postecoglou – often in the same game. After another usually chaotic 4-3 win against Manchester United in the Carabao Cup on Thursday night, the Australian's dogmatic approach came under fire.
Watching the Spurs about to give up a 3-0 lead in his capacity as a Sky Sports pundit Carragher insisted: “My criticism of Tottenham under the manager is that they never change the way they play, no matter what the game is like.”
This is not Carragher's first disparaging comment about Postecoglou's Tottenham. When the subject of criticism was raised ahead of a visit to the Premier League by Liverpool On Sunday, the veteran manager wrote: “There are some things that I just find offensive to me.”
Postecoglou Specifically, Carragher name-checked, adding: “Someone like Jamie is there to give his opinion and he's not going to stand there and say, 'I've got nothing to say.'” Some of the other things I don't understand because it's just about getting the headlines, but again if you react to that (then) it says more about you than anything else.”
