Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques had a torrid outing with the bat in the 2024-25 Big Bash League (BBL) match against Sydney Thunder. In what was a Sydney derby, the match between the two teams took place at the Sydney Showdown Stadium in Sydney on Saturday (December 21).
Chasing 164, Moises Henriques came into bat at No. 4 after the team lost wickets in quick succession. The all-rounder struggled in the innings right from the start as he was unable to get going, looked torrid with the bat and failed to lead from the front.
Even after getting a second life in his innings, he failed to cash in on it. However, the catch that was dropped gave flashbacks of Pakistan's similar moment of play when Sydney Thunder players Tanveer Sangha and wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings came up with a comedy of errors.
Tanveer Sangha bowled a leg break which was short on leg stump. Moises Henriques went on the back foot to pull and got the top edge which went straight up and looked like it was going to be an easy catch and the Sydney Sixers skipper had to turn.
But as they went up, Sam Billings and Tanveet Sangha raced forward and then eventually left it to each other as the ball fell right between them. The duo then shared a few words as Moises Henriques was given another lease of life in the game. Looking at this, David Warner was quite angry.

Moises Henriques ended with an innings of 17 runs from 22 balls
Fortunately, the drop chance didn't cost Sydney Thunder much as in the next over, Lockie Ferguson removed Moises Henriques. The pacer bowled a short length ball down the middle to which the batter left room to loft. He ended up hitting up the bat and looped to extra cover.
Moises Henriques ended with an innings of 17 runs from 22 balls. But after his wicket, Jordan Silk (36*) and Ben Dwarshuis (20*) came up with a massive effort with the bat as Sydney Sixers chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand and picked up crucial points in the league.
Play the game to be in those moments – Ben Dwarshuis
Ben Dwarshuis, who also picked two wickets with the ball, won man of the match and spoke about his innings, saying he enjoyed batting with Jordan Silk. While further detailing his performance, he explained:
“You play to be in those moments. Silky and I were like – let's enjoy it and do our best. This was one of the best I've had. I hit them well in the goals. I like that we get a few in the middle. Credit to Greeny who made us wait till the last ball where he didn't execute perfectly.
“I was trying to stay really still. Look and react and I trust my hands to do the job. No rocket launcher, just a really nice club. I was just trying to stay still and swing hard. It feels good to connect a few .”
