“I went on vacation and it caught me by surprise,” said Zubimendi about Liverpool's interest in an interview for Basque newspaper. “It wasn't something I planned. I reacted when the situation arose. It was an uncomfortable time for me. But I weighed the pros and cons and came to the conclusion that the best option was to stay.”

“There were many reasons for my decision, but I was selfish and thought about what was best for me. And that was the attitude.”
Ryan Gravenberch has thrived on it Liverpool this season in the defensive midfield role that Zubimendi would have occupied, but the Rossoneri remain interested in a second series with the Spaniard. Reports emerged earlier this season claiming that Zubimendi is more open on a transfer in 2025 and the midfielder did not rule out the suggestion in his latest interview.
“I don't believe in 'once in a lifetime' opportunities,” he noted with a wink. “If you are good and you want to achieve something, it will come to you. There is no need to rush.”
