Former Australian national cricket team and Mumbai Indians player Michael Hussey opened up about the incident when jasprit bumrah gave an aggressive dismissal to AB de Villiers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He revealed how he calmed down the fast bowler after getting the batter out.
Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly one of the best players in world cricket. The premier pacer has come a long way in his career and it is fair to say that currently, there is no one close to him; such was his impact on the game in all three formats.
Jasprit Bumrah rose through the IPL ranks while playing for Mumbai Indians
Bumrah rose through the IPL ranks while playing for Mumbai Indians in the league. He made his debut under Rohit Sharma in 2013 and played with some of the stalwarts of the game in Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey and others.
Jasprit Bumrah, on debut, left a lasting impact, removing Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, returning with figures of 3/32. While the fast bowler is now as calm as a cucumber, he was fierce in his early days when young blood ran through his veins.
I remember pulling Bumrah aside and saying, 'Cote, you don't have to do that – Michael Hussey
Michael Hussey, who played with Jasprit Bumrah, spoke about how the fast bowler looked at AB de Villiers in the early days after he removed him. He pointed out that the delivery did not go down well with the RCB batsman and went to him to pacify him.
Michael Hussey also revealed how he made Jasprit Bumrah understand that the biggest sledge a bowler can give a batsman is to take his wicket. While elaborating on the same in a conversation with the Willow Talk Podcast, he explained:
“He burst onto the scene in the IPL. I do remember having a stern word with him though. In one of his opening games he got AB de Villiers out, obviously an excellent game and gave him a big dismissal and AB wasn't too happy about it. I kind of looked down at him and I remember pulling Bumrah aside and saying, 'Shit, you don't have to do that.'
“You have so much skill, so much talent, it is enough to get the wicket. This is the biggest sled you can give, you don't have to give rejections if you want to have respect in the game and be respected by your teammates. then maybe just don't resign”.
