Aston Villa secured a deserved and impressive 2-1 win over Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League, plunging the reigning champions further into crisis.
villa were denied twice by visiting goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in the first minute, but that did not let them down in their bid to take the lead. A sweeping drive in the 17th minute was eventually converted by Jhon Duran, who scored for the fourth game in a row.
Man City had some promising opportunities to score during a disappointing first half for the power Premier League champion. Phil Foden kept Emiliano Martinez's palms warm before Josko Guardiol went over from close range.
The second half offered no improvement from the visitors and it was Villa who struck first after the restart. The influential Morgan Rogers set up and finished another fine move, firing beyond Ortega in style who had hit the post minutes earlier.
Man City finally reduced the deficit in stoppage time as Phil Foden scored his first Premier League goal of the season, but Villa held firm in the final embers to secure a well-earned win.
