Head Travis shines in BGT 2024-25
The 30-year-old Travis Head, who was the chief architect behind Australia hammering India in the finals of the ICC World Test Championship and the ICC Cricket World Cup, once again troubled the Men In Blue.
It started from series with the score of 11, but since then he has looked unstoppable. He blasted 89 runs in the second innings of the Perth Test and then followed it up with a stunning knock of 140 in the Adelaide Test.
Then in the Gabba Test, Travis Head smashed 152 in the first innings and demolished the Indian bowling attack. He is currently the leading run-getter in the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 405 runs in the bag at an average of 81.80.
I think he is very intelligent – Ravi Shastri
Speaking to the ICC Review, Ravi Shastri spoke about Head's performances and stated:
“Because his new last name is Travis Head'ache'. They are looking for balms in India. For foot problems, ankle problems (and) even a headache they look for a balm. He's ideal for that.”
Head has struggled a lot against short balls over the years, but has recently made major improvements in the way he handles this type of delivery. Shastri noted this and praised him for improving his short ball style of play immensely. He said:
“I think he's very smart. From what we saw of him three years ago, he has improved tremendously. Especially with the way he plays the short ball. He prepared to leave her. He learned to let go sometimes.”
“It's not a big chance all the time, on a short elbowed delivery or something. He is ready to either ride it or go for big shots. And if it's middle, middle and off, then he hits it in front of square as well.
“He understands length very well. This is one of his great strengths. And it has a flashing offside blade. So he is a difficult man to control. And he's in the form of his life.”
We all knew it was dangerous but Jasprit Bumrah played the first strike… – Ravi Shastri
Ravi Shastri said that the way Travis Head played against jasprit bumrah shows that he is in the form of his life. So far, Head has blasted 83 runs off 91 balls against one of the greatest pacers of all time, Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a nightmare for other Australian batsmen. He said:
“We all knew it was dangerous, but the first shot was played by Jasprit Bumrah, that cover unit, off the front foot. It was in many ways a bit on the rise, with good delivery, decent delivery. He told me that this is a player in prime form.
“He continued to show just that. And the thing about him is that he doesn't exist, his mentality is very clear. There is no clouded mentality. He is very clear about the situation. This is my strength.
“I will play this way. Yes, I will monitor the state of the game. I might shift from fourth gear to third gear. But I'll always be in third and fourth gear once I watch.”
