Former BCCI selector Chetan Sharma has backed premiership batsman Virat Kohli to do well in the remaining two games of the ongoing 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He said his prediction that the batsman would score three tons in the series would come true as he would hit two more centuries.
Indian national cricket team batsman Virat Kohli has once again come under fire for his Test cricket failures. The leading batsman began the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy at sea as he slammed a magnificent century in Perth and looked set to catch fire.
Virat Kohli managed just 26 runs after his century in Perth
However, after that century, his chart witnessed a downward trend as the batsman failed to get going in the last two matches of the series. The demons of the off-stump outside line came to haunt him again as he picked up a string of low scores in the last four innings.
After Kohli scored a magnificent century in Perth, he was expected to have a big run. But it was quite the opposite as he looked out of sorts in the last two games, which were at Adelaide and the Gabba.
After his 100-run knock in Perth, Kohli managed just 26 runs and this is undoubtedly a serious concern for him with the series on the line. The batsman would like to turn things around in the last two games as runs from him are needed for the Indian national cricket team.
Let's hope he scores two more centuries in the next two matches – Chetan Sharma on Virat Kohli
Chetan Sharma, despite Kohli's poor form, came out in favor of the lead batsman to score runs in the last two games of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He tipped for Kohli to hit two more centuries in the last two matches, saying his prediction would come true. Speaking to ANI, he explained:
“He is a player who has achieved so much for us which raises our expectations. I am confident that he will perform well. Let's hope he scores two more centuries in the next two matches. We predicted before the series that he will score three centuries in Australia “.
Virat Kohli struggled to walk the bat in 2024
Overall, 2024 has not been a great year for Virat Kohli at all. In the 9 games he has played so far, the leading batsman has amassed 376 runs at an average of 25.06, his highest score being 100 not out. In this WTC cycle, he has 687 runs in 12 matches at an average of 36.15 with two centuries and three fifties.
The numbers suggest that Virat Kohli has not been at his best in Tests. However, he will have a golden opportunity to turn things around in the final two games of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which is to be played at the MCG and SCG.
