Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 6-3 by Liverpool in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon in a joyously chaotic game.
Arne Slot was full of praise for him Tottenham her counterpart Ange Postecoglou ahead of Sunday's game. “It's a joy to watch them,” said the Liverpool boss. It looked like a joy to play against Spurs.
Trent Alexander-Arnold's delivery for the visitors' first goal was a thing of beauty, darting from the middle of the Tottenham half straight to the head of Luis Diaz to deliver. Liverpool advantage in the 23rd minute. Andy Robertson's spot-kicking cross soon after was not cleared properly, bouncing high for Alexis Mac Allister to nod home.
James Maddison took advantage of a high turnover to halve the deficit with a goal against the run of play in the 41st minute. However, Liverpool restored their two-goal lead before the interval, with Dominik Szoboszlai finishing off a move he started.
If there had been any doubt about the final result, Liverpool sealed all three points with a sharp counter-attack inside the opening ten minutes of the second half. Despite Archie Grey's best efforts, Mohamed Salah was ready to stab at the fourth goal.
Barely five minutes passed before Salah scored at the sharp end of another flurry of transitions, adding Liverpool's fifth on the hour in a typically entertaining game to make it 5-1.
Tottenham, however, would not lie down. The hosts continued to push forward, leaving themselves exposed on the counter but laying the foundations for Dejan Kulusevski and then Dominic Solanke to beat Alisson to pull it back to 5-3.
Diaz started this goal celebration and he was going to close it. Going beyond a defensive set-up that was purely hypothetical in the 85th minute, Diaz opted for the far corner.
The nine-goal thriller leaves Liverpool four points clear of Chelsea at the Premier League summit, while Spurs languish in the bottom half of the table.
