Charlie Woods made a hole-in-one at the PNC Championship – but it wasn't enough as Tim Woods narrowly missed out on Bernhard Langer and his son Jason in the play-off.
Bernhard birdied the first extra hole to successfully defend his title after the two teams finished tied at 28 under par.
During the final round, Charlie made history on the 175-yard par-three fourth at the Ritz-Carlton Club.
Charlie seemed unaware that his ball had gone in until the large gallery by the green began to cheer wildly, as did another group of fans on the other side of the hole, most of them holding up their index fingers – some down to indicate that it had gone in, something worse to show his result.
The television cameras finally confirmed it for him. Tiger Woods gave his son a big hug, then playfully pushed him away. “The first one,” Charlie said as the cameras panned around him.
“It was a perfect 7-iron, so I kind of hit it,” Charlie said as he approached the fourth green. “Down the left side, little cut seven. It was great. I didn't think it went in. I don't trust anybody until I go up there and see.”
Tiger then teased saying, “You're buying. That's hole-in-one protocol,” but Charlie replied, “I'm broke.”
About 30 minutes later, Paddy Harrington – son of three-time major winner Padraig Harrington – also made a hole-in-one on the eighth hole.
Despite the defeat, Tiger and Charlie remained in high spirits, with the 15-year-old saying: “It was great, it's the most fun I've ever had and on top of that I made an ace, I can't top that.”
Tiger added: “I'm super happy for Charlie, nobody made a mistake today and we had to earn it. I'm nowhere near competitive but we made a great team and that's all the joy.”
The PNC, which features 20 major champions each playing with a family member, is Tiger Woods' first competitive event since back surgery in September.
Tiger and Charlie lead the field, but still haven't won the tournament. In 2021, the pair finished second behind John Daly and his son John Daly II.

“That was amazing, what a perfect moment,” he said Sky Sports' Oliver Fisher.
“Perfect number, a seven iron, a little down the left, he loved it from the moment he hit it and his dad wasn't there.
“What a moment to miss, but it was an amazing scene for Charlie. It's a great start and a real boost for them.
“There's no feeling like when you hit the ball and it actually goes in the hole. You can see it was all surreal for Charlie and it's just a wonderful moment.
“It was a big day today, not only for Jason but also for Bernhard, going out with Tiger. It was neck and neck all day and we saw some great shots from everyone.”
