The 2024 season began with the most monumental victories for the Superliga. In February, Jake Wardle's converted try was the difference as Wigan Warriors claimed a dramatic 16-12 victory over Penrith Panthers to win the World Club Challenge.

The win saw Wigan crowned Club World Champions for the fifth time, with the Panthers eyeing a first win in the competition after losing to St Helens at home to a golden point goal from Lewis Dodd a year earlier.

“Tonight, off the court and on the court, is the culmination of a lot of hard work and we have to do it again and again,” Warriors head coach Matt Peet said.

“It's not just about winning trophies, it's about packing this place and standing for something.”

“Sometimes you have to handle the pressure and I thought we did a really good job of that, and we ended up coming out strong at the end.”

April

In April we saw one of Super League's most decorated managers leave Hull FC after 18 months in charge. Yes, on April 11, Hull FC parted ways with head coach Tony Smith after a poor start to the Super League season.

At that time, the black and whites were at the second bottom of the table and that's where they ended the regular season.

“I wish the club and all the players the best for the future,” Smith said in a club statement.

“It's disappointing not to see the job through on what was always a challenging project – and I relished the opportunity to see it through to the end.
